Kansas City, MO—Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC), in partnership with the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, is proud to announce the resounding success of its fourth annual “Volunteer for 15” program. This initiative, which encourages youth to dedicate at least 15 hours to volunteering in their communities, has mobilized nearly 2,000 youth across the United States, Canada, and Uganda to dedicate 80,446 service hours. This equates to more than $2.6 million in value to their communities.

“I am incredibly proud of the work our young volunteers are doing to make a difference in their communities,” said Tracy Hale, CEO of Youth Volunteer Corps. “The ‘Volunteer for 15’ program has provided thousands of youth with the opportunity to develop essential leadership skills, build meaningful relationships and create a lasting, positive impact.”

Two exceptional young volunteers, Nyliya Washington from St. Joseph, MO and Kemi Ojikutu from Reading, PA, were recognized for their extraordinary contributions.

Most Spirited Award: Nyliya Washington

Nyliya received the “Most Spirited” award. Her infectious enthusiasm and compassion led her to organize a successful “Birthday Bash” for the underserved residents of her apartment complex. What began as a simple idea blossomed into a heartwarming initiative that has touched numerous lives, including those experiencing housing insecurity. Nyliya created an opportunity for young volunteers to give back to their community while enjoying a shared meal and building lasting friendships. More than just a volunteer, Nyliya is a catalyst for positive change, inspiring others to unite and serve their communities. Nyliya was thrilled to receive a football autographed by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Champion of Change Award: Kemi Ojikutu

Kemi Ojikutu, who received the “Champion of Change” award, stands out as a beacon of advocacy, tirelessly championing causes that deeply resonate within her community. Kemi has co-led the Stand Together Against Racism (STAR) club at her high school and helps establish STAR clubs in other local schools. On a global scale, she developed a collaborative relationship with an anti-racism student club at an international school in South Korea. Kemi’s innovative ideas and relentless efforts have inspired others to join in creating a more compassionate world. As a testament to her impact, Kemi recently represented the youth of YVC at the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation Gala in October.

“I’m so proud of the growth of the ‘Volunteer for 15’ program and its impact over the years,” said Patrick Mahomes, Founder of the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation. “It’s inspiring to see how young people are using their time and energy to make a real difference in their communities. I’m honored to support such an awesome initiative.”

The “Volunteer For 15” program continues to grow, empowering young people to make a difference in their communities. YVC and the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation remain committed to supporting and celebrating the contributions of these extraordinary youth volunteers.
